From August 22, 2005 to December 16,
2005, I completed my student teaching at Highland High School in
Anderson, Indiana. Highland High School is an urban public school
with approximately 1500 students in grades 9 - 12. The student body
is comprised of 80% Caucasian, 18% African-American, 2% Multi-Racial
and 1% Hispanic. Thirty-nine percent of the student body receives
free or reduced lunch. The attendance rate is 93% and the dropout
rate is 3%. Seventy percent of the students pursue higher education. Highland High School operates on a seven period day. Each class meets every day for 50 minutes. During the 16 week period I taught two French I classes, one French II class and one French III class. The class size ranged from 19 to 28 students. The ages of the students ranged from 14 to 18. The ability of the students ranged from learning disabled to gifted and talented. |
