  • American Association of Teachers of French
    The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) was founded in 1927 and is the largest national association of French teachers in the world with nearly 10,000 members.  AATF's headquarters is located at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.  AATF's members are French teachers at all levels and include approximately 3/4 secondary teachers and 1/4 post-secondary.
     

  • American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages
    The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the only national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction throughout the U.S. ACTFL and its affiliated organizations represent the educators who are committed to building language proficiency from kindergarten students through adult learners. ACTFL provides advocacy, professional development opportunities, resources and opportunities for members to interact and share ideas and experiences.
     

  • Ball State University Teachers College
    Ball State University's Teachers College is one of the highest recognized schools on the campus today. Before the University became what it is known today, it was a school entirely focused on teaching.  The college has received numerous awards for its excellence in education.
     

  • Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association
    The Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association (IFLTA)
    is the professional organization for all foreign language teachers at all levels in Indiana. 
     

  • Indiana Department of Education
    The is the state of Indiana's website for everything relating to education.  On this site, you will find links to standards, questions about such topics as Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress (ISTEP), and other information that is vital to success in the classroom.

    The Indiana Professional Standards Board (or now known as the Division of Professional Standards) is responsible for governing the preparation, testing, licensing, induction, and re-licensing of Indiana's education professionals.  The mission of the Indiana Professional Standards Board is to enhance the quality of learning for Indiana's P-12 students through establishing, maintaining and ensuring adherence to performance-based standards for Indiana P-12 education professionals throughout their careers.

     

  • Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium
    "The Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) is a consortium of state education agencies and national educational organizations dedicated to the reform of the preparation, licensing, and on-going professional development of teachers. Created in 1987, INTASC's primary constituency is state education agencies responsible for teacher licensing, program approval, and professional development. Its work is guided by one basic premise: An effective teacher must be able to integrate content knowledge with the specific strengths and needs of students to assure that all students learn and perform at high levels."     This page has lots of fun, interesting, and interactive links for both teachers and students. The page has information from verb conjugations, to culture, to quizzes, and everything else in-between.
     

  • Teaching Clip Art Library
    This library consists of about 3000 images which will be useful in the teaching of basic vocabulary in a variety of languages. The characters and objects depicted are as culturally neutral.  The site's purpose is to provide a set of those graphics most basic and useful for low-level language-teaching, and at the same time, to make them as easily searchable as possible.

     
  • Le Parisien
    Interested in Paris? You can stay current with the news in Paris by accessing this online newspaper that is specific to Paris. Le Parisien will allow you to read all about the most current events and weather in the city of romance.
     

  • French Stories of Hans Christian Andersen
    These are the famous stories of Hans Christian Andersen.  They are entirely written in French and great for helping students learn to read in the French language.  Stories range from Le Briquet to
    La petite Poucette.
     

  • Rubistar
    Rubistar is a website that allows teachers to create personalized rubrics for assessment. This is an excellent site to use for alternative forms of assessments. The teacher can choose the criteria to include on the rubric and the site generates it within seconds. This site is free to anyone and allows the file to be downloaded into Excel.
     

  • FL TEACH Resources
    This site is a listing of useful websites for French teachers and students.  The categories range from media to fun activities and everything in-between.  Dictionaries and other useful information made from teachers for other teachers are included on this page.
     

  • Discovery School
    Discovery School provides tools to create quizzes, worksheets, lesson plans and puzzles.  It can be used for any subject matter.  The site also offers sample worksheets for each subject.  The site is easy to use, and will allow teachers to create interesting activities for any student.  The Custom Classroom application is free to enroll for teachers.
     

  • Quia
    Quia.com is a website designed for teachers to create online quizzes or tests. It also allows students to track their progress and scores on quizzes taken using Quia.com. This website is a fast way to create effective online assessments and also allows for immediate feedback to students.
     

  • Tennessee Bob's Super French Links
    Tennessee Bob's Super French Links is another page with references to other pages that can be useful for French Teachers.  This page is categorized from books and literature to "French across the curriculum."  This site claims to have over 10,000 sites listed on their page.
     

  • ARTFL French-English Dictionary
    This dictionary is based of Merriam-Webster's Dictionary.  It only uses about 75,000 terms, but the ARTFL is continuously adding words to their site.
     

  • Learning to read a French Newspaper
    The ability to read from a French-language newspaper is part of the basic information gathering skills expected of all foreign-language professionals, as well as of students at a certain point in their studies.  Because of the many different things reported, newspaper reading is a way to begin enlarging the topical variety necessary to upward movement on the Oral Proficiency Scale. It is also gives students an extended and significant encounter with a vocabulary particularly rich in cognates, and is itself a major resource for the study of contemporary culture. Finally, it is authentic, containing ever-day language as well as a credible notional variety.
     

  • French Crosswords
    This page has a listing of crosswords that you can complete on the computer.  All the answers are in French, however your clues are in English.  This is perfect for the beginner French student, as they can learn vocabulary from these puzzles.
     

  • French Listening & Speaking Central
    This site contains over 100 resources in phonetics, listening and speaking strategies, plus modern assessment guidelines and audio connections, and an exhaustive collection of tongue twisters. This collection of practical, theoretical and evaluative material is adequate for learning through advanced graduate courses.
     

  • Le Monde - French Newspaper
    This is one of the most prominent French newspapers.  There is free access to several articles and the rest of the content can be accessed for a fee of six Euros per month.  This newspaper covers stories around the globe, primarily focusing on the happenings of the larger cities in France, particularly Paris and surrounding areas.  There is also information about movies, cultural events and current weather conditions.
     

  • Radio France
    On this site, you can hear live radio from France.  There are a variety of genres of music stations, including talk radio and popular music.  This would be great to introduce students to the natural spoken language.  The access to the website and radio stations is free.  The only thing that is needed is a good pair of headphones and a fast internet connection to avoid delays.
     

  • Nacell
    This site provides links to places where teachers can order authentic materials.  This is a useful database to use in order to find a variety of places to seek different kinds of materials.  The materials include European text books, videos, posters and stories.
     

  • Yahoo France
    Students can search on yahoo.fr in French and find actual French websites to aid in research.  Yahoo.fr will allow the students to search in the target language and the results will be in the target language as well.  Access to Yahoo.fr is free.  Yahoo.fr will be similar to Yahoo.com and so students will feel comfortable with its familiar look and feel.
     

  • Amazon
    This site is the same as Amazon.com, however it deals in French books, CD and DVDs.  This is an excellent source to order from because they will ship to the United States.  The prices vary depending on the item.  It is a searchable site as well, so if you are looking for something specific it will not work well.
     

  • Africa 1
    This site is an African online magazine in French.  French is the language of many African countries, so it would allow students to read authentic news release from another French speaking nation.  Access to articles on this site is free.
     

  • Rando.net
    This website offers maps of France with the names of the places in French.  The map is interactive, so when a city is clicked another page appears with a detailed map of the city and tourist information.  It also gives geographical information as well.  This would be much more interesting than using a traditional atlas.
     

  • Francophone Music Resources
    This site provides links to Francophone music sites where different genres of authentic music are available.  There are links to period music sites and popular music sites.  Everything is an authentic French Source.
     

  • International News Links
    This site provides links to all of the different newspapers around the world.  It is categorized based on region and then subdivided into countries.  This source would allow students to read the news in many of the French speaking nations and expand their knowledge outside of France.
     

  • Teacher Store House
    This site is a searchable warehouse.  Teachers can order materials that are authentic in the language.  There are French stickers, posters, puzzle books and much more.  The prices are on average under ten dollars per item.
