Classroom Procedures

  1. Entering the Classroom: As you enter the room, please be seated. When the bell rings everyone should be quiet and ready listen to instruction. You may log onto the computer or check your mailbox while you are waiting for class to begin, but do not begin working.

  2. Tardy: Any student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings will be considered tardy. The school tardy policy will be followed and strictly enforced. It is important to always be on time so that you do not miss important instructions or information. However, in the event that you are late, quietly enter the room, go directly to your seat and begin working.

  3. Absences: If you are absent and miss class you are excused from the activities that we did in class on the day you were absent. If you consistently miss class due to discipline problems, then I will have you attend a ZAP session to make up the work. It is important to be in class everyday because all of the work that we do is in class.

  4. Student Number: I will be assigning you a student number. You will need to put this number at the top of each paper you turn in to me. Your student number will also be your mailbox number. Always remember to put the proper heading on your assignments.

  5. Zeros Aren't Permitted: ZAP is a policy that I have in my classroom, students are not allowed to having missing assignments. If a student has a missing assignment, a ZAP session will be assigned as explained in the course syllabus.

  6. End of Class: During the last five minutes of class, I will ring the bell three times to signal that it is time to save your work, print, clean up your station, and log off. Please remain in your seat. When the bell rings, I will dismiss the class.

  7. Listening To/Responding To Questions: Everyone has the right to be respected when they are speaking. If you would like to ask a question or make a comment, please raise your hand and wait to be called on. Please do not speak while someone else is speaking.

  8. Attention: When I need your attention during class I will ring the bell 2 times. That sound should signal you to be quiet, stop what you are doing and be ready to listen to instructions.

  9. When You Need Help: If you or your parents need to speak with me outside of the classroom, please schedule an appointment with me. If you are having difficulty with an assignment, I am available before and after school. Please arrange a time with me and I am happy to help you.

  10. Moving Around the Room: If you need to move around the room, please raise your hand and wait to be called upon. Please do not interrupt in the middle of an explanation unless it is an emergency.

  11. Passes: You will be given two passes for the entire nine weeks, the passes may be used to go to your locker, restroom or get a drink of water. You will not be allowed to use a pass during an explanation or other restricted times. Please make every effort to use the restroom before or after class and bring all of your materials to class so that you do not have to use class time.

  12. Classroom Language: Please use appropriate language in the classroom. Do not use negative words and speak positively about other classmates and what we are studying.

  13. Internet Use: It is against the Northside Middle School Acceptable Use Policy for students to be unsupervised on the internet. You may only use the internet when I have instructed you to do so. In addition, you must only visit the sites that I have directed you to. Disregard of the Acceptable Use Policy will result in an office referral.

Classroom Behavior:

It is important that you respect and follow the classroom rules and procedures on a daily basis. There will be appropriate rewards for following the guidelines explained above, as well as appropriate consequences for not following the classroom rules and procedures.

My behavior expectations for you are high. If I feel that your behavior is inappropriate for class or you are not following the classroom rules and procedures the following consequences will be utilized:

          1. Verbal Warning. I will ask you only once to correct your behavior. That is your verbal warning.

          2. The student is sent to refocus in the designated area, to complete a refocus sheet.

          3. Student - Teacher conference in the hallway.
