Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC #_____9______

• Brief Description of Evidence:

This artifact is a compilation of items gathered at a seminar on managing anti-social behavior. There are pictures from the seminar, the seminar agenda, a poem created by all of the seminar participants and a reflection. In the reflection, I discuss how the seminar impacted my teaching and professional development.

• Analysis of What I Learned:

This was a two part seminar that I attended during student teaching. It was a valuable professional development opportunity and I learned many new strategies and techniques to incorporate into my classroom. I learned that I can help a wide variety of children when I have the right information. The most helpful information presented at the seminar was about punishment and rewards. After the seminar, I decided to incorporate a rewards system into my classroom management plan. I also learned that it is essential that teachers continue to attend professional development workshops so that personal growth does not stop. I was able to re-evaluate myself as a teacher and improve upon flaws.

• How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

Through attending and reflecting on the seminar, I demonstrated this INTASC principle. I was able interact with colleagues in a professional manner and share ideas with fellow teachers. I took advantage of this opportunity for professional growth and reflected upon the information presented at the seminar. I critically examined my current classroom management plan and decided that it needed some improvements. I believe that reflecting on this experience has improved my teaching.
