Reflection:
Assessment of student progress and growth within the classroom can be done in several different fashions. It is important to consider what is being assessed before choosing a type of assessment.  Assessment can be done formally and informally. Both assessment strategies have advantages and disadvantages. It is important that the teacher understand each of them in order for the assessment to be valid.
I believe it is important to assess the learning that is taking place in the classroom. However, it is also important to vary the ways in which assessment is done. I have learned that there are diverse learners and assessment needs to be adjusted accordingly. As with instructional strategies, there needs to be a variety of assessment techniques. I believe that when administering a test, it is important to have many different formats of questions so that each student will find one type that they excel at. Assessments should not be intimidating or cause anxiety. It is my responsibility as a teacher to organize assessments so that they foster success.
