INTASC Principle 6: Communication and Technology
|
| Reflection: Verbal and non-verbal communications are techniques that teachers need to develop. Effective communication strategies enhance the classroom and the quality of learning. Speaking clearly and concisely is crucial so that each student understands what is being said. Non-verbal communication is a bit more complicated and can be interpreted in many ways. It is important that teachers are aware of the signals they are sending. Another way in which teachers can communicate information is through technology. Technology is a vital source of information and communication in today’s society. It is important that teachers are aware of its uses and know how to properly incorporate technology into the classroom. Using a variety of types of media can create a rich and engaging experience. Providing students with the opportunity to guide their learning and participate in active inquiry can be promoted through the use of technology. A wealth of information can be accessed immediately through the internet. It is a valuable resource that should be used in the learning process. Technology can be particularly valuable in foreign language classrooms because authentic materials can be accessed easily. It is important to have contact and use of authentic materials in a foreign language classroom. Those materials can help students to learn about the culture first hand and also know what is currently happening in other parts of the world. It opens students up to a more global view. I believe it is important for me to understand how to use technology effectively so that I can transmit that to my students. Similarly, it is important for students to learn how to use technology inside the classroom so that they can take that knowledge beyond the classroom. In addition to technology, teachers should promote effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills in the classroom. |
