Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC #_____6______

• Brief Description of Evidence:

These artifacts are some interactive PowerPoint presentations I created which illustrates the structure of the French government, the structure of certain verbs in the French Language, as well as a Jeopardy-style review game for a exam. The French government is structured much differently than the government of the United States, so it is helpful for the information to be presented visually.  PowerPoint is also great for teaching about verb structure.  With the animation option, the presentation can run itself while the teacher gives the lesson.  Also, PowerPoint is excellent for making fun interactive games that the students can participate in to help review for exams.  The presentation allows the teacher to base the lecture off of the slides and provide supplementary information as well. This method of presentation creates a stimulating visual for difficult material.

• Analysis of What I Learned:

During the creation of this PowerPoint presentation, I learned about the different possibilities and features of the PowerPoint program. There are many features of the software that are helpful to use in the classroom and enhance the learning process. I also learned how to take difficult material and break it down into reasonable chunks of information. By using a visual method of presentation, the students are engaged in the material and have visual images to connect with the material.

• How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

In order to teach this lesson, I used a form of technology that enhances the learning process and teacher presentation. It is important to vary instructional tools, and I believe that a graphical and visual tool improves this lesson. When I approached this topic, I realized that it was difficult material to internalize, so I investigated different teaching options. A PowerPoint presentation was an optimal tool because it allowed for the students to see the material in small pieces and in graphical representations. This lesson incorporates PowerPoint technology to accommodate different learning styles. There are visual representations, oral explanations, and interaction with the material. The information is reinforced through enhancing the presentation using technology.
