• Brief Description of Evidence:

     "The Benefits of Incorporating Music in the Classroom" is a research paper that I wrote for another class. This paper examines the ways in which music can stimulate the students and create a positive learning environment. Research supports using music as a tool to aid in classroom management. Also, this paper discusses the different ways in which music can be used in foreign language classrooms. Teachers can use music to improve pronunciation and as a memory device.

• Analysis of What I Learned:

     Throughout the writing and research of this paper, I learned many different ways in which music can be used in the classroom. I learned that students can benefit from having background music playing because it stimulates their brains and helps them to concentrate. Music can have an effect on mood as well. Calming music can sooth the students and reduce anxiety in the classroom. In respect to foreign language learning, music is an invaluable tool. Though song, students can work on their pronunciation and intonation. Also, music teaches about culture. The students can gain insight into other cultures through listening to different types of music.

• How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

    This artifact shows that I understand how to create an environment in which students can work cooperatively and effectively. Through using music as a management tool, the environment in the classroom will be conducive to learning. Using music is not a traditional classroom management tool; however, through doing research I have learned about new strategies that I can use to create positive experiences in the classroom. Through using music as an alternative strategy, I will be responsible for maintaining a constructive environment. In addition, I will monitor the classroom in order to assess whether music is the appropriate tool to be used. Through writing this paper, I have developed ideas for classroom management and adopted another strategy to use in the classroom.
