Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC #_____4______

• Brief Description of Evidence:

This is a lesson that I created for a first year high school French class.  This lesson would most likely be taught in the first semester of their language learning experience.  Through song, visual aids, games, and explanation, the students are introduced to body parts and a new verb which means “to have.”  In this lesson, I try to use many different activities to reinforce the new vocabulary terms.  This lesson is quite active and requires student involvement and participation.

• Analysis of What I Learned:

This lesson primarily dealt with vocabulary terms.  I learned that when introducing large chunks of information, it is important to present the information in a fashion in which the students are actively involved in adding the new terms to their vocabulary.  I also learned that it is as important to vary the activities within a class period.  Creating a lesson that moves along at a steady rate and has different types of activities that reinforce the same concepts is important to keep students engaged and interested in the material.

• How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:

The teacher uses many different tools in order to teach the vocabulary in this lesson. There is a lot of variation within the types of learning strategies used. There are visual aids, kinesthetic activities, oral and aural activities involved throughout this lesson. The teacher tries to reach all types of learners through the different activities. The teacher also places the students at the center of the classroom when they are playing games and allows them to be active in their learning. It is a student centered lesson. The teacher acts as a guide and facilitator for learning.
