Reflection:
Every student is an individual. Each child has a different learning style and rate of development. Within each classroom there will be a wide spectrum of learning styles and development.
Understanding and being aware of how children learn and develop can allow teachers to support each child’s intellectual, social and personal development. Each child learns and develops at a different pace. It is important that the teacher be sensitive to all of the differences among the students. Through understanding how my students develop, both intellectually and socially, I can teach at the appropriate level and adapt my techniques accordingly. As an educator, it is my responsibility to help equip students with the appropriate tools to grow and learn. If I understand how each child learns, I will be able to provide each child with tools that will optimize his or her learning.
Emotional and social development are aspects of development that often get overlooked in the classroom setting. I believe that these developmental factors need to be accounted for. The level of emotional and social development of the students effects their learning and growth in the classroom. When a teacher understands the mentality of his or her students, he or she will be able to relate to the students in a more effective manner.
Students are growing every day in every way. They are always changing. It is important that teachers understand the students’ learning styles and developmental stages in order to effectively create a classroom environment that is supportive of each student.
