Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact
INTASC #_____10______
• Brief Description of Evidence:
This artifact is an interdisciplinary unit that I created with a Social Studies student teacher and an English student teacher. Together we were able to create a three week unit in which the students focused on the overarching theme of survival. French, English and Social Studies all worked together to create a cohesive unit. The unit focused on community involvement and development.
• Analysis of What I Learned:
I learned that it is important to create rich learning experiences for students. It is important for the students to work in the community and feel that they can have an impact too. This unit strives to show the students that their work can be showcased in the community and be useful to other students. I learned that it is important for several teachers to work together in the academic community in the common interest of student learning.
• How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Principle:
This artifact demonstrates the community and relationships principle because it focuses on community involvement and interaction. The teachers in the unit feel that it is important for the student to work with younger students in order to share their knowledge. The unit also creates relationships between the community and the schools. The middle school and high school work together in this unit to create a rich learning experience. Also, relationships between teachers are fostered in order to create and execute the unit. The teachers consult each other in planning and teaching. The main focus of the unit is student learning and development, in this particular unit that is done through community involvement.
